在本片拍摄的过程中，饰演假面骑士１号演本乡猛的演员藤冈弘因为受伤而导致不能继续拍下去，所以制作小组便安排假面骑士２号登场！
故事简要：
原名本乡猛,是个头脑精明，运动全能的青年科学家。他被秘密组织『休卡党』捉去改造，在接受脑手术时，得恩师绿川博士的拯救，离开基地，成为对抗“修卡党”的假面骑士。假面骑士的造型是以蝗虫为蓝本，有惊人的跳跃力和踢腿力。

警方為應付未確認生命體而開發了G3系統，這套G3系統是根據未確認生命體4號即幪面超人古迦的力量而設計出來，裝著員是一位叫冰川誠的警員，為人真誠但略為粗獷。警方另一部門在荒島上發現了古代文明，並進行解碼。當未確認生命體再次出現，連G3也不是其對手時，神秘的金色幪面超人亞極陀登場，這個幪面超人是一位失憶的青年津上翔一變身，起初因未能控制而襲擊G3。
翔一暫住在美杉義彥的家，認識了擁有超能力的風谷真魚，真魚更幫助翔一四出尋找他失去的記憶，並遇上葦原涼。涼在父親的遺物中，發現一本記事薄，當中提及之姓名卻無人知曉，查探父親死因後，竟發現自己是另一個幪面超人－磯烙使。磯烙使是不完整的亞極陀，所以當涼變身磯烙使後會出現後遺証。有次他相當危險，幸得因超古代文明遺傳因子而誕生的青年所救。之後出現的未確認生命體也相繼被翔一，涼以及誠所打敗。
